Industrial Visits Policy and Analysis
Industrial Visit Policy:
Industry Visit (IV) bridges the gap between theoretical training and practical learning. Students get an opportunity to gain knowledge about the field of their interest. Interfacing with the industry provides a chance to build networks and hone their skills. IV helps the students to learn about the various facets of the corporate functioning. The Heads of the Departments (HoDs), Faculty in-charge (FiC) of Industrial Visit and students shall adhere to guidelines given below. All are instructed to ensure its compliance from the planning of Industrial visit to the completion of visit as per the directives of Hon. Director.
General Guidelines:
- Students are expected to visit at least one Industry of relevant fields to gain practical knowledge and to gain advances in their choice of field. Students of all departments are encouraged to go for IV. The number of IVs in a year will be decided by Hon. Director.
- IV shall be arranged according to the academic requirements and as per the norms of AICTE/UGC/SRTMU.
- HoD must certify that the tour is required for the students to improve their knowledge or is related to their curriculum. The companies selected for visit shall be suitable ones to the specialization, academic requirements and relevant. Requirements of POs, PEOs, PSOs, etc. must be followed.
- IV can be organized preferably in the vacations, and/or on holidays. Instructional (academic or non-academic) day(s) should not be lost in any condition. If it is unavoidable to use one or more instructional day(s), students should give in writing that the loss will be made up by arranging extra sessions on holidays or via extended hours on regular working days. HoDs shall take the responsibility of arranging the extra sessions accordingly.
- The IV shall not be more than 7 days (including journey days).
- HoDs shall ensure that benefit of the visit is taken by maximum number of students. Request by small group of students shall not be entertained at any cost. As a general policy, IV will be allowed only if at least 75% of the students of the class give their consent in writing/Google form. Any violation of this will be personally handled by Hon. Director.
- Student to Faculty Ratio shall be maintained as 40:1 or better. There shall be at least 1 lady faculty/staff/Ph.D. student accompanying if there are girls in the tour. The ratio of Girls to Faculty shall be 30:1 or better. Any violation of this shall be dealt by Hon. Director.
- The IV shall commence only after due permissions from Hon. Director. The application for permission will be routed through HoD and Dean (Student Affairs)/ Dean (Industry Liaison) well in advance to enable IV to go through a diligent process including communicating to the potential companies and obtaining permission to visit.
- Night stay(s) and other stay(s) shall be preferably in the places of religious places like Gurudwara, Jain Dharmashala, Marwadi Dharmashala, etc., so that adequate security is maintained and untoward incidence may not happen.
- IV for only Girls shall not be allowed at any cost.
- Boys and girls shall not share same room for any stay at any cost.
- Insurance cover (accident cover/life cover/etc.) will be mandatory for every student and faculty member participating in such tours.
- Students must carry institute ID cards throughout the IV.
- Students must produce a medical fitness certificate before commencing the IV. Accompanying faculty members must be given an undertaking that they will take care of the students and ensure that rules are followed.
- Faculty member(s)/Staff may face disciplinary action if the safety of the students is compromised, or a case of indecent behaviour is reported.
- First-aid kit and a box of over-the-counter medicines for the students and faculty members participating in such IVs shall be organized by the institution.
- Students shall completely stay away going near to water bodies (rivers, swimming pool, boating place, water falls, etc.) and shall avoid dangerous places where the loss of life or there is high risk of accidents. This shall be strictly followed while taking selfies. Going to restricted areas and not following the instructions of the Group Leaders/FiC will be treated as a serious disobedience.
- Students shall organize IV, but the decision of the accompanying faculty in-charge (FiC)shall be final and binding in all matters related to IV. FiC shall consult the rational students before taking the decision. If the FiC is unable to take decision on his/her own, he/she shall consult the higher authorities if there is enough time to get the reply. If the decision must be taken by himself/herself, students must assume that he/she is taking decisions on behalf of Hon. Director and shall cooperate with FiC. All the students should obey the instructions of faculty in-charge of IV.
- All students always need to be in the group during the entire duration of IV till they return to the destination. There shall be no subgroups heading towards different cities or in different locations within the city. Subgroups might be permitted if there is need in the industry within the industry campus.
- Decision to abort the IV for any student/group of students in case of illness or any unforeseen incidence during the IV shall be dealt by FiC.
- A detailed report of the IV shall be submitted in 15 days after completion of the IV. Student coordinator and with FiC shall be responsible for the same.
Guidelines for Undertaking from Students:
- The students going on the visit shall give in writing an undertaking which should cover following things: they shall follow discipline, they shall follow the law of the land, they shall maintain utmost humane behaviour so as not to hurt the institutional, state and National cause in any manner, that any violations shall be liable to strict disciplinary action, and report to Police or other investigating agencies if needed, that the student has duly informed his/her parent(s)/local guardian and contact details of the parent(s)/local guardian must be available on the undertaking, that they are freeing the institution from the risk of personal and material loss if incurred during the visit, etc.
Guidelines for selection of external Tour Operators:
- The Tour Operators for IV can be identified by the Faculty/Staff coordinators in coordination with the HoD and Dean (Student Affairs)/ Dean (Industry Liaison).
- A quotation from minimum three Tour Operators shall be obtained, and rates shall be finalized with the approval of HoD and Dean (Student Affairs)/ Dean (Industry Liaison)/ Dean (Procurement)/ Director or as directed by Hon. Director. Due procedure will be followed for the selection of the operator.
- The Tour Operator must make alternate arrangements in case of unavoidable circumstances. The Tour Operator shall arrange stay for all the students and faculty in the same location/hotel or the hotels very close to each other.
- The Tour Operator should send guides in adequate number with the students to take care of them.
The Tour Operator should not combine the student IV with any other private tour.
